Council cuts funds for schools

Citing declining enrollment in the schools, the Newport City Council voted Wednesday night to cut the School Department’s budget so it is $175,000 less than the schools received in the current fiscal year. (33 secs ago)

Preventing E. Coli Infection

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports the Kroger Co. has recalled ground beef in Michigan and central and northwestern Ohio in response to the 32 E. coli infections reported in the two states. ARREST: A Falls man was arrested on drug charges. Eric B. Willis, 33, 1723 Ashland Ave., was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Police said they stopped Willis at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of 19th Street for having an open bottle of beer. (51 secs ago)
